Mark McDonald, M.D.
Growing up in a small town in West Virginia, Dr. McDonald learned the value of maintaining close connections with others. He grew up with an interest in science and math but placed his academic endeavors aside to serve in the United States Marine Corps.
Dr. McDonald was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2002 after serving and receiving decorations for combat operations in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Upon leaving the Marine Corps, Dr. McDonald moved to Austin, Texas to pursue his suspended academic studies. During this undergraduate education at UT, Dr. McDonald worked as a nurse’s aide at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. It was here that Dr. McDonald gained a humble perspective of the medical field and patient service as his daily duties included cleaning bedpans and bathing patients.
He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he received an academic scholarship to attend the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
Dr. McDonald’s affinity for the social interactions with patients and his personable demeanor guided him into family medicine. He completed his residency in Tyler, Texas at the University of Texas Health Science Center. He received his Board Certification in Family Medicine in 2014.
While dealing with large insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid during his residency, Dr. McDonald developed an understanding that patient centered care is not achieved by large faceless companies/entities dictating care. As a physician, he realized that quality time consulting with patients and making well thought-out decisions about their health care was the kind of medicine he wanted to practice.
After completion of residency, Dr. McDonald worked for the Schumacher Group to staff emergency rooms in Trinity, Crockett, Quitman, and Gilmer, Texas. This experience allowed him to see the result of patients being unable to see their physician due to stuffed waiting rooms and limited providers. This is where he developed the understanding that accessible providers providing well-timed routine care could prevent a large portion of illnesses.
In 2015, Dr. McDonald created Fidelis Concierge Physicians to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to the people of Tyler, Texas and its surrounding areas.
Dr. McDonald is licensed to practice medicine in Texas and Louisiana and lives in Tyler, Texas where he enjoys the lifestyle that East Texas affords.
